Description

Within the context of VectorNet area, teams of experts gathered specimens and other available information on the presence of selected priority tick species. The aim was to identify and confirm new locations for target tick species, where gap-analysis suggested likely presence.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 35 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods

Animals (sheep, cattle, goats, cats and dogs) were checked for ticks at multiple farm locations. Ticks dragging was performed. Ticks were stored in single tubes per animal or per dragging site. Ticks were identified morphologically to confirm species.

Study Extent "Samplings in Montenegro took place from 23rd to 27th June 2025 in Nikšić, Cetinje, Danilovgrad, Podgorica, Ulcinj and Kotor. Samplings in Italy took place from 15th to 19th September 2025 in Reggio Calabria and Vibo Valentia provinces."

Method step description:

  1. A gap analysis was completed, using existing VectorNet data, to identify locations where ticks were likely to be present, but which lacked sampling data. Local experts were contacted to collaborate on field missions, which targeted high priority species (Hyalomma spp.). Standard sampling techniques were used (host sampling, Co2 trapping),
