Description

This dataset presents long-term amphibian occurrence records from the Bisle region of Sakaleshpura, Karnataka, India - part of the Western Ghats, a global biodiversity hotspot. The records were collected as part of Bisle Frog Watch, an annual citizen science program initiated in 2012 by Bisle Kappe Team and Gubbi Labs. Each year during the southwest monsoon, participants - including students, researchers, and naturalists - document amphibians over a three-day field workshop through direct sightings and acoustic identification. The compiled checklists represent species observed or heard during these workshops. Records are validated by expert facilitators and reflect group consensus. To date, the initiative has recorded about 40 amphibian species, including several endemic species and first distributional records for the region. The workshops have also indirectly contributed to the discovery and documentation of at least two new species from the Western Ghats. This dataset contributes valuable temporal biodiversity data for a relatively underrepresented region, supporting research, conservation, and public engagement with amphibian diversity in India.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 13 records.
