Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 110 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

Geographic Coverage

Gandhinagar, Gujarat's new capital city, lies on the west bank of the Sabarmati River. The river bifurcates the Ahmedabad city into eastern and western parts. Average Elevation of Gandhinagar is 81 m above msl, and Ahmedabad is 53 m; however, elevation of the proposed corridors varies from 60m to 79m

Bounding Coordinates South West [23.095, 72.381], North East [72.642, 72.941]

Taxonomic Coverage

The species abundance along Ahmedabad Metro-rail phase-II alignment came out to be 4326 and the species richness of the area came out to be 100 species (all taxa collectively). It implies a total of 100 species of birds, mammals and herpetofauna have been recorded collectively. It includes 81 species of Birds belonging to 43 families, 6 species of mammals belonging to 5 families, and 13 Species of herpetofauna belonging to 7 families have been recorded from the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro-rail alignment.

Study Area Description Gandhinagar, Gujarat's capital city, lies on the west bank of the Sabarmati River. The river punctuates the Ahmedabad city into eastern and western parts. Average Elevation of Gandhinagar is 81 m above msl, and Ahmedabad is 53 m; however, elevation of the proposed corridors varies from 60m to 79m. Geologically, Gandhinagar falls in Alluvium & Blown Sand, of recent age; whereas Ahmedabad city falls in the lithology of Alluvium, Blown Sand, & Miliolite Sand of recent age. Goradu and Kyari soils are generally found in Ahmedabad City. The soils in the Gandhinagar district are generally sandy loam type with grey to brown colour. The proposed Project falls in Seismic Zone III as per revised seismic zoning map of India. Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar districts form a part of the Cambay basin and are occupied by quaternary alluvium comprising mainly of sand, gravel, silt, clay and Kankar etc

Sampling Methods

With the assistance of the RS-GIS unit of the GEER Foundation, all habitat diversity was located, and a detailed inventory of each habitat was completed. Various animal species were recorded by using the line transect method.

Study Extent Using a stratified sample approach, the inventory was completed, covering the diversity of habitats on both sides of the Metro Rail track. A 250-meter transect was planned out on both sides of the Metro Rail Project to encompass all adjacent habitats, including wetlands, agricultural lands, woods, grasslands, and wastelands. All habitat variety was discovered with the assistance of the GEER Foundation's RS-GIS team.

Method step description:

  1. The inventory was carried out through stratified sampling manner that was cover all habitat diversity found on both sides of the Metro Rail track. On both sides of the Metro Rail Project, a transect with a length of 250m laid in such way that was cover all habitats such as wetlands, agricultural lands, forests, grasslands, wastelands etc. nearby the project area. All habitat diversity had find out with the help of RS-GIS unit of GEER Foundation and an inventory of each habitat was carried out thoroughly.
