Última versión Publicado por Test Organization #1 en Mar 26, 2018 Test Organization #1

The Natural History Museum of Denmark (NHD-DK) is a research centre associated with the University of Copenhagen. The data contains a digitized literature compilation for the project ‘Birds at the Danish Lighthouses, 1880-1939’, and what we provide particularly is occurrence data recorded in books for two lighthouses, Lodberg Fyr (56.82343, 8.26789) and Hanstholm Fyr (57.11267, 8.598575). These lighthouses were used by several species of birds during the nights of the bird migration period from the years 1886 through 1939. The presence and activities of these birds were recorded, especially by the keepers of these lighthouses who also collected specimens that were sent to the museum in Copenhagen. These birds were carefully preserved and catalogued by collection managers at the museum and the specimens can still be found there today. The data provided gives the occurrence ID, sampling events, and catalogue numbers and observations of weather conditions during the nights when birds were observed by the keepers were also documented. On individual specimen attributes, individual counts, sex, lifestages were sometimes given. In summary from the species identified, 18 did not have species name and 10 were not identified. About 100 different species were observed from the 1212 individuals. There were 14 orders, 36 families identified all from the Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Chordata and Class Aves. The data is published with a Creative Commons license allowing use of data with attribution (CCBY).

Descripción de la metodología paso a paso:

  1. Two library staff members trained in the use of the library scanner to scan delicate volumes digitized the literature. Text was extracted from the scans through OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. Transfer of data from the scanned PDFs into spreadsheet format was done through gaining access to the files stored in the museum intranet (private network). Taxonomic checking was done through catalogue of life and GBIF Nameparser, data curation and cleaning was done using excel and open refine, format and transformation was alo done through open refine. All this was done in excel and Open refine and software such catalogue of life.
